Clinton “Pete” E. Smith, age 68 of Aitkin died Sunday, August 4, 2019 at the Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, Minnesota.
Clinton was born July 10, 1951 at Fridley, Minnesota the son of James and Edna (Westerlund) Smith. His father worked construction so he moved many times with his family and had attended schools in Kansas, Indiana, Aitkin, MN., and Forest Lake, Mn. He started working on cars as a kid and it became his lifelong passion. He married Nancy A. Bentley on October 18, 1969 at the Coon Lake Covenant Church near Anoka, MN. They made their home New Brighton and then Anoka before moving to Aitkin 35 years ago. He enjoyed hunting deer, Elk and moose, fishing, vintage race cars and has travelled all over to race tracks including Indianapolis, Indiana, Georgia, Daytona, Florida, Pikes Peak and Elkhart, Wisconsin. He enjoyed going on road trips short and long. He enjoyed spending last winter in Alamogordo, New Mexico and was looking forward to going again this winter. He was always there to help anyone in need.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Smith of Aitkin; Son Jeramy Smith of Aitkin; Brothers and Sisters: Lyla and Ray Dooley of Champlin, Mn., Sandy and Cary Tracy of Cedar, MN., Becky and Pat Anderson of Cambridge, Mn., Bruce and Diane Smith of Big Lake, Mn., Neal and Tami Smith of Cambridge, Mn., and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Roger Lindelof, Leo Lindelof, Richard “Dick” Smith and sister Laura Mistelske.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2019 from 4 PM until 8 PM at the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A sharing of memories time will be held at 7 PM. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. Arrangements are with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
