Donald William Drew

Donald W. Drew, age 89 of Aitkin, MN. died Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin, Minnesota.

Donald was born June 18, 1930 at Monticello, Minnesota. He grew up in Augusta and graduated from the Waconia High School in 1948. He then attended Dunwoody Technical Institute and learned Auto Body Repair. He married Joanne M. Lenzen on April 21, 1951 in Carver, Minnesota. He worked for Dauwalter’s Garage in Carver for a time and in 1962 he and his family moved to Aitkin where he worked for Northern Service and then MacDonald Wold for a time before working for Aitkin Autobody for many years before retiring in 1994. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, fly tying, traveling, the outdoors, puzzles and especially baseball. He was a pitcher for the Carver Black Sox from 1946 until 1962 when he moved to Aitkin. He then played a short time for the Aitkin Baseball team. He had always been a Yankees Fan and enjoyed reading the “Twins Toilet Paper Express”. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Aitkin.

He is survived by son and daughter in law: Joel (Diane) Drew of Alexandria, Mn.; Daughter and son in law: Patricia Ann (David) McLaughlin of Ortonville, Mn.; Grandchildren: Daniel (Becca) McLaughlin, Leah (Wayne) Howe, Colleen (Marc) DelValle, Ross McLaughlin, Lindsey (Bryce) Emmons, Jackie (Nate) Peterson; Great Grandchildren: Maverick, Sabastian, Paisley Hammers, Gage and Oakley Peterson, Cylas and Deelia Emmons; Brother: Robert Drew of Janesville, Wisc., Sister: Shirley Kamann of Morrisville, Penn. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years wife Joanne on June 20, 2019, Parents, Brothers: Harvey and James, Aunts, Uncles and brother in law: Larry Kamann.

A memorial service for Donald and his wife Joanne will be held Friday, July 19, 2019 at 11 AM from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Aitkin with Rev. David Becker officiating. Visitation will be Thursday July 18 from 5 to 7 PM at the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home and also 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Aitkin. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. Arrangements are with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
