Gordon Lee Gruhlke, age 67 of Palisade died Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at his home.
Gordon was born February 29, 1952 at Aitkin, Minnesota the son of Richard and Ruby (Johnson) Gruhlke. He grew up in the Palisade area and attended the Waukenabo School and then the Aitkin Schools graduating in 1970 from the Aitkin High School. He then attended the Anoka Vo-Tech studying Small Engine Repair. He worked for a time in the twin cities for Bob Kirk Oil delivering fuel oil and also for a Marine sales and service company. He moved to Aitkin and had worked for the Kosbau Brothers and then for MacDonald Wold and also Nelson Trucking. In 1979 he bought the family dairy farm near Palisade and operated that for almost 20 years. During that time, he also worked various odd jobs. In 2000 he started his own company, Gruhlke Trucking and did that full time until 2009 when he cut back due to health issues. He had served on the AMPI Board for many years, loved to watch westerns, being on his tractors, gardening and enjoyed fishing. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children: Jeremiah Gruhlke of Palisade, Stephen (Amanda) Gruhlke of Aitkin; daughter-in-law, Kimberlee Gruhlke; 4 Grandchildren: Kendra, Kaelynn, Alan and Tyler. Also surviving are brothers and sisters: Leroy (Carol) Gruhlke of Cohasset, Mn., Donna (Kenneth) Siebert of Virginia, Mn., Susan (Dale) Anderson of Grand Rapids, Mn., Thomas (Cindy) Gruhlke of Dassel, Mn., Roger (Beverly) Gruhlke of Burnsville, Mn., Raymond (Cheryl) Gruhlke of Palmdale, Mn., and sister in law: Ellen Gruhlke of Aitkin and also many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Ruby Gruhlke and brother Alan Gruhlke.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 1 PM from the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home and Cremation Service with Rev. William Sass officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM and also 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date in the Waukenabo Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Aitkin.
