Meldon “Meldy” Donald Liljenquist, 82, of Aitkin, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2019 in Riverwood Healthcare Center, Aitkin. He was born in Glen Township on September 28, 1937 to Olander and Margaret (Dehning) Liljenquist. Meldon entered the Army in 1956 and was stationed in Japan where he met and married Kimiko “Jackie” Kinugasa on March 17, 1958 in Yokohama, Japan. They later made their home in the Glen area. Through the years he worked for the telephone company, Bertram’s and was the lead Supervisor for Brunswick Corporation constructing bowling alleys all over the Midwest up until his retirement. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for over 50 years. He was an avid fisherman and was usually the first on the ice. He enjoyed hunting and got a real kick out of showing the young bucks how it was done. Meldy also enjoyed motorcycle riding out west, camping, boating and life in general. He loved and enjoyed his family, especially time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved doing things with them and even spoiling them a bit.
Meldon is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jackie Liljenquist; his parents; 1 brother, Melvin Liljenquist
Meldon is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Debbra and Kent Lowe of Aitkin and Linda Liljenquist and Frank Ostronski of Aitkin; 2 grandchildren, Kristy (Michael) Klaphake of Delano and Mitch (Angie) Lowe of Otsego; 7 great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Marilyn Andrews of Aitkin, Beverly (Dennis) Lemm of Isle; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis (Luci) Liljenquist of Aitkin; several special relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 12, at 11:00 AM in Bethesda Lutheran Church, Malmo with Pastor Kate Mensing officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Military Honors will be provided by Aitkin V.F.W. Post #1727 and Aitkin American Legion Post #86.
