Richard Arlen Boyer, Sr., 90, of Aitkin, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020 in Aicota Health Care, Aitkin. He was born August 18, 1929 in Duluth to William and Vieno (Leiviska) Boyer. Richard graduated from Aitkin High School. He was united in marriage to Marlene Odegard on December 26, 1953 in McGregor. Richard is a Veteran of The United States Army who served from 1952 – 1954. After serving our country, Richard returned home and took over the family farm and was a dairy farmer for many years. After retiring from the farm he worked as a Milk Tester, House Mover and rural Mail Carrier. Richard was a member of Aitkin American Legion Post #86, Aitkin V.F.W. Post #1727 and D.A.V. He enjoyed woodworking, volunteering at Riverwood Healthcare Center and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Richard will be missed by all who knew him.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; his parents; brother, Hubert Boyer; son-in-law, Greg Turnock; great grandson, Nathan Boyer.
Richard is survived by his children, Richard (Donna) Boyer, Jr. of Aitkin, Alice (Pete) Kwasnjuk of Aitkin, Ruth (Larry) Baumann of Ogilvie and Amy Turnock of Palisade; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth (Gloria) Boyer of Roseville and Lloyd (Pat) Boyer of Pillager; sister, Dorothy Insley of Aitkin; special friend, Wilma Sandberg; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be Wednesday, January 15 at 11 AM in Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 14 from 5-7 PM and 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Military Honors will be provided by Aitkin American Legion Post #86 and Aitkin V.F.W. Post #1727. Interment will be in Spencer Cemetery, Spencer Township.
