Roger Leroy Nelson, 81, of Aitkin, took his last ride on the Northern Pacific Railroad on Saturday, May 4, 2019. He was born October 8, 1937 in Minneapolis to Albert and Louise (Ringstrom) Nelson. Roger was united in marriage to Anne Emily Vorlander on September 8, 1961 in Minneapolis. Roger is a Veteran of The United States Army who served from 1960 to 1966. Roger enjoyed model trains and photography. He was a member of Aitkin American Legion Post #86 as well as Pioneers.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wayne and James; sister-in-law, Paula Snyder.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Anne; daughter, Terry (Scott) Hruby of Savage; two sons, Lawrence (Karen) Nelson of Burnsville and Todd (Jennifer) Nelson of Naples, Florida; grandchildren, Coty, Samantha, Tessa, Jared, Alexander and Nicholas; expected great grandchild, Aevery; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Roger’s life will be held Saturday May 11 from 12-6 P.M. at the Nelson Family Farm, 37667 State Highway 47, Aitkin. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
