Ronald “Joe” Joseph Weimer, age 61 of Aitkin died after a courageous battle with cancer at the St. Cloud Hospital on Sunday, April 21 surrounded by his loving family.
Joe was born November 6, 1957 in Aitkin, Minnesota the son of Raymond and Agnes (Lang) Weimer. He grew up and attended schools in Aitkin graduating from the Aitkin High School in 1975. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1975 until his retirement in 1998 with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He returned to Aitkin and worked with his brother at Northwoods Custom Meats in Remer for 19 years. While in High School he played saxophone and baritone saxophone in Band and Jazz Band. He was a member of the Bass Fishing Team while in the Navy. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, bowling and shooting pool. He was a member of the Aitkin American Legion Post for 38 years. He enjoyed traveling and had also served as commander of recruiting while in the Navy.
He is survived by his mother Agnes Weimer of Aitkin; Sons: Daniel Lee (Treasha) Weimer of Hawley, Texas, Joseph Raymond Weimer of Hawley, Texas; 4 grandchildren; Brothers: LeRoy (Carla) Weimer of Aitkin, Donald (Pamela) Weimer of Elk River, Mn.; Significant Other: Nancy Weigelt of Aitkin and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father in 2007.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at 11 AM from St. James Catholic Church with Fr. David Forsman officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 PM at the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home and also 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the St. Thomas Cemetery in Aitkin. Military honors will be provided by the Aitkin VFW and American Legion Posts. Arrangements are with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
