Russell Dean McNitt, 75, of Aitkin, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2019 in Riverwood Health Care Center. He was born January 6, 1944 in Mason City, Iowa to Howard and Jeanette (Wilson) McNitt. Russell is a veteran of The United States Navy who served on the USS Whetstone during the Vietnam War. Russell was united in marriage to Kathleen Lambaere on July 1, 1967 in LeMesa, California. Russell worked at M&S Specialties in Bethel and later at Eltronic in Fridley. Russell enjoyed tractors, Model A’s, fishing, hunting, playing 500, traveling, computers and his Navy buddies. Russell especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Russell is preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Frances; brother, Roland McNitt; sister, Marlys Reiser; step-brothers, Fred Herr and John Herr, step-sisters, Nancy Williams, Margaret Schwartz and Irene Goodman; nephews, Steven Kennedy and Michael Plautz.
Russell is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen McNitt of Aitkin; 3 sons, Jeff (Shirlee) McNitt of Denver, Colorado, Mark (Shari) McNitt of Buffalo and Craig (Julie) McNitt of Brooklyn Park; grandchildren, Phillip (Claire) McNitt, Christine McNitt, Taylor McNitt, Cassie McNitt and Michael McNitt; siblings, Mary Baldwin of St. Marys, Ohio, Larae McNitt of Brooklyn Park, Sharon (Ervin) Muellner of Burtrum, Ethel (John) Becker of Wadena, Ed McNitt of Brooklyn Park and Tom (Donata) Herr of Alexandria; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be Monday, September 23 at 11 AM in United Methodist Church, Aitkin. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
