Arleen Tierney Stevenson Obituary

Arleen Mae Hearle Tierney Stevenson, 94, went to be with the Lord on January 14, 2021.  Arleen was born on August 10, 1926 in St. Paul, MN to Reginald and Pearl Hearle.  Having grown up during the Great Depression, life was never easy on the family farm near Stacy, MN.  After her sister Lorraine got married, her father needed help on the farm so she volunteered to stay home and do the chores so that her brother Jack could go to school.  This was only the beginning of a life that always put the needs of others before her own.

After getting married to Thomas Tierney they had seven precious children whom she would eventually raise and provide for almost single handedly.  She sacrificially gave of herself for her children teaching them to always be thankful for everything they had.  After her children were grown, she married the love of her life, Charles Stevenson on August 30, 1978.  Arleen and Charlie spent their golden years, loving on their children and grandchildren, teaching them to play cards and making wooden toys for them in their garage where she also enjoyed restoring beauty to discarded furniture for others to enjoy. Much of their life together was happily spent helping others in need as they picked up and delivered food to food shelves and families in need throughout Central, MN for nearly 30 years.  She lived her life looking for ways to bless others, thankful for every blessing she’d received.

Arleen was always full of joy, even throughout the many trials she encountered in life.  She was the most generous person in the room, even when she herself may have had the least.   She was full of life, even as she gave hers away.  She was witty but gracious, tough but gentle, hilarious but humble, resourceful but generous, spunky but kind, wise but forever young. She was full of faith in God and full of love towards every person she was with. She continued loving everyone around her right to the very end when she said, “I see Jesus, I see Jesus!” and soon after went to be with Him.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Reg and Pearl, her brother Jack and Sister Lorraine, her beloved husband Charlie, son Mark, granddaughters Heather and Rebekah, and great-grandchildren Ryan and Charlotte.  She is survived by her children Dan [Connie] Tierney of Watertown, MN; Sandy Fredrickson [Tom Martin] of Crosby, MN, Sue [Gordy] Abbey of Mankato, MN; Pat [Gary] Thompson of Watertown, MN; [Diana] Tierney of Champlain, MN Joanne [Jay] Munson of Milaca, MN, and Tim [Nikki] Tierney of McGregor, MN; her 23 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; along with many friends, neighbors, and countless others who have been impacted by her life and legacy of selfless love.  We will all miss our beloved “Chicken Butt”, “Tillie”, “Bop-Bop”, “Grams”, “Ma”, “Sizzleen”, “Bubbles”, “Murt”, “Great”, “Cookie”, “Leen”, “Sweat Pea”, “Grandma Great”, and “Me-ma.” She truly was a Great, Great, Grand “Ma” to us all.
