Betty Allen Obituary

Our beloved mother, Betty L. Allen, 84, of McGregor, passed away peacefully with her family holding her hands on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Golden Horizons Assisted Living in Aitkin. She was a beautiful and loving, devoted mother, grandmother and friend, and the heart of our family. She was born January 1, 1940 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the daughter of Joseph and Bernice (Rodgers) Thompson.  She moved to Hayward, California where she met the love of her life. Her love and new husband Dennie was in the Navy and so they lived in many different places including Florida, Texas, West Virginia and finally in Minnesota. She was an excellent cook (pies especially!!), and waitress who was requested by many customers at the many different places she worked. She also worked as a cook at the McGregor School. She once served a large banquet for Danny Thomas and met “Lurch” from the Adams Family. She lived in California most of her life, but later, after the death of her husband, decided to stay in Minnesota when she retired as they loved it so much. Her faith and her family were the two most important things in her life. She was kind and giving to all she met. She especially loved the little ones and was the best grandma and great grandma to each and every one. She has one on the way that she will love from her new home in heaven.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dennie, her mother & father, Joseph & Bernice Thompson, brothers Doug & Danny and her sister Cathy.

Betty is survived by Daughters Deb Swedberg (Duane), McGregor, Pam Annis (Dave), NC, Lisa Taylor, MA, Dorain Dailey (Chris), FL; Son Mike Allen (Janice), OK; Grandchildren, Sara (Ryan) Zrust, Sam (Lindsay) & Steven (Wynnona) Swedberg, Dennie (April) & Nick (Jessica) Annis, Kristen (Mark) Finch, Rachel Taylor (Lisa), Julian, Josh & Amanda Allen (Mike), Ashley & Christopher Dailey (Dorain). She has 11 wonderful great-grandkids and one on the way. Kamryn, Kate, Jessa & Drew Zrust, Clyde Swedberg, Markie & Bella Finch, Maddox, Owen & Ava Annis & Grayson Allen. She is survived by one sister, Delores and five brothers, Joe, Mark, Fred & Alan and many nieces & nephews whom she loved very much.

Many were special to her, but her friends Sandy & Tom Nistler were lifelong friends and like family to her.

A special thank you to Scott Stinson, the staff at Carefree Living, Knut/Nelson Hospice and a loving appreciation to the staff at Golden Horizons, especially Jen & Brian, who were so caring & compassionate and clearly loved her like she was part of their family.
