Carol Edith (Harris) Proctor, 96, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024 at Golden Horizons in Aitkin, Minnesota surrounded by her family. Carol was born Dec. 27, 1927, in Brainerd, Minnesota the daughter of Roy and Edith Harris. She graduated from Crosby High School and attended Crosby Junior College where she met Jack Hamilton Proctor as he returned from military service in World War II. Carol then attended Hamline University. She was united in marriage to Jack on Aug 14, 1949. She worked for Hallett Construction as Mr. Hallett’s secretary. Jack and Carol moved to Aitkin in 1955 when they joined Aitkin Furniture with her brother-in-law and sister Ken and Muriel Sall.
Carol had a beautiful voice. She sang the alto lead in the Messiah for many years along with singing at many weddings and funerals. She sang in the First Lutheran Church Choir for nearly 40 years. She loved playing golf and over her career had three holes-in-one. She enjoyed playing cards (and winning), especially beating her sister, Muriel, who she played with every morning. Many nickels were won and lost over the years. Carol and Jack traveled extensively, playing golf wherever they went. She loved entertaining family and friends, making every event a special occasion. Carol always said they were truly blessed.
Grandma Carol was known by all her grandchildren and great grandchildren for her wonderful backrubs, homemade cookies, and bags of candy (everyone knew where they were kept).
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Edith (Hunt) Harris; husband, Jack; sister and brother-in-law Muriel and Ken Sall of Aitkin, Minnesota. She is survived by her sons Kim (Marjie) Proctor of Aitkin, Minnesota and Todd (Linda) Proctor of Emily, Minnesota; grandchildren Jennifer (Jason) Henke, Kent (Tara) Proctor, Alex (Berit Ahlgren) Proctor of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and Aaron Proctor of Superior, Wisconsin; great-grandchildren Martin, Jack, Drew, Logan, and Baylor; niece Marydith (David) Delisle and nephew Rick (Nancy) Sall.
The family would like to thank Golden Horizons Memory Care and Aicota Assisted Living for all their loving care.
