Charles Carlson Obituary

Charles John Carlson, 93, of Palisade passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at his home with family by his side.  He was born September 3, 1930 in Palisade to Lloyd and Rose (Erlandson) Carlson.  He grew up in the Palisade area graduating from Aitkin High School in 1948.  He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving in the Korean War.  He was stationed in Korea for a year and was a safety inspector for the 931st Engineer Aviation Group.  After being honorably discharged 1955 he attended Arizona Bible Institute graduating in 1958.  Charles was united in marriage to Eloise Evans in October of 1954.  After Eloise passed he moved back to Palisade in 1961.  Charles was united in marriage to Carolyn Ashton on March 26, 1963 in Sisseton, South Dakota.  Carolyn preceded him in death in 1995.  He was united in marriage to LaDonna Andrews on August 30, 1997.  LaDonna preceded him in death in 2012.  Charles worked as a mechanic throughout his life. Starting at Tex Bullis’s Garage in Palisade to Arizona Machinery and then at the Palisade Co-op, where he worked for 34 years.  He started his ministry work at First Baptist Church in Buckeye, Arizona as an assistant pastor.  He helped start Community Chapel in Palisade and was pastor of Hilltop Chapel in Palisade for 34 years.  After retirement, Charles kept busy driving the Aitkin Friendship Bus.  He was a Lifetime Member of the Mathew W. Sanders VFW Post 1721 of Palisade, a member of the Palisade Fire Department for 26 years, Palisade School Board and later Aitkin School Board for 25 years and the Logan Township Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 wives, sister: Irene, 4 brothers: Wallace, Arnold, Larry, and Robert.

Charles is survived by his 4 daughters and sons-in-law: Ruth (Dennis) Lindman of Palisade, Onida (Ladd) Kocinski of International Falls, Pamela Nordstrom of Palisade and Tambrey (Terry) Barrows of Brainerd; 3 sons and daughters-in-law: David (Pamela) Carlson of Palisade, Russell (Donna) Carlson of Milltown, WI. And Charles (Becky) Carlson, II of Palisade; 17 grandchildren: Daniel Lindman, Gina Brekkestran, Jonathan Lindman, Sara Lindman, Joseph Paulbeck, Armand Paulbeck, Jennifer Ristow, Brandon Kullhem, Anders Kullhem, Kelsey Wesenberg, Garrett Carlson, Kylie Carlson, Wyatt Carlson, Layton Carlson, Lindan Koch, Edward Koch, Dacoda Koch; 29 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; 2 sisters: Iris Weston of Grand Rapids and Darlene Homoki of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and many other special relatives and friends who mourn his passing.

Funeral service will be 1:00pm – Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the Assembly of God Church in Aitkin.  Pastor Joel Holm and Pastor Barry Hite will officiate.  Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be in Fleming Cemetery.  Military honors will be accorded by the Mathew W. Sanders VFW Post 1721 of Palisade.  Pallbearers are Charles’ grandchildren, Honorary Pallbearers are Gail & Mike Kearney, Jim Holstein and the Palisade Fire Department.  Special music provided by JoLynn Kullhem.  Go to www.srtfuneral.com to leave a message of condolence.  Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
