Clyde LeRoy Nelsen, 79 of Aitkin passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at his home. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication and quiet strength that touched the lives of many. He was born July 18, 1946 in Elko the son of George and Charlotte Rozelle (Harris) Chasealone. He graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School in 1964. He played in a band called “Pipestone” in the Farmington-Elko-New Market area. On November 28, 1970 in Farmington Clyde was united in marriage to Shirley Louise Belter. He worked many different jobs but most recently he managed the Aitkin ice skating rink and was a Health & Human Services Counselor for the Mille Lacs Academy in Onamia. Known for his steady character and generous spirit, Clyde was someone people could rely on- whether for a helping hand, a listening ear, or a bit of well-timed wisdom. Born with a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for family and community, Clyde carried those values throughout his life. He believed in doing things the right way, treating others with respect, and finding joy in the simple moments – time spent with loved ones, conversations with friends, and the satisfaction of a job well done. Those who knew Clyde will remember his warm heart, his sense of humor, and the way he made people feel welcome. He had a gift for bringing people together and reminding others of what truly matters in life: family friendship, and compassion. Clyde’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and they will continue to honor his life and cherish the memories they shared with him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his wife Shirley Nelsen; children: Yolonda (Steven) Karnes, Chris (Candy) Nelsen, DeAnna Nelsen–Vian, Aaron Nelsen (Krystle Boyd); Grandchildren: Cody Vian, McKenzie Bjork, Aurora Nelsen, Kendal Bland, Avianna Karnes and a great-grandchild on the way.
A gathering to celebrate Clyde’s life will be held by loved ones at a later date. Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Aitkin. www.srtfuneral.com
