Connie "Berta" (Lehman) Hammond

Connie Roberta (Lehman) Hammond, ‘Berta’, age 77 of McGregor, Minn., passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin, Minn.

Berta was born May 3, 1947, in St. Cloud, Minn., the daughter of Robert and Laura Lehman. She graduated from McGregor High School in 1965 and later attended Hibbing Community College.

Berta was united in marriage to Allan Hammond on Feb. 15, 1968, at the McGregor United Methodist Church. During Allan’s military service, Berta accompanied him and lived overseas in Germany from 1969 to 1977. During that time, they had their daughter Connie Lynn. Berta and Allan later divorced in 1984.

Berta went on to travel with Penn Valley Shows where she worked games, food and ticket booths for over 20 years. She enjoyed being a part of the Penn Valley Shows family.

Berta was a member of the McGregor United Methodist Church. She loved singing karaoke with ‘the girls’, playing bingo, cards, games, sewing, embroidering, crocheting and varieties of crafting. She also loved to go camping, being with her friends and her beloved pets.

She was preceded in death by her parents Robert Lehman and Laura (Fillingim) Lehman.

Memories of Berta live on with her brothers: Leonard Lehman, David (Debra) Lehman, James Lehman, Thomas (Aimee) Lehman; Timothy (Lucinda) Lehman; sisters: Karol Lehman, Karen (Todd) Hansen; daughter Connie Lynn (Ira Sr) Morse; Goddaughter Amber Lehman; grandchildren Tiffany (Justin) Scovel, Ira (Arial) Morse Jr, Toby Morse, Tamira Morse, Krystal (Eddie) Calhoun, Samijo (Matt) Grife, Cody Beckman, Angel Beckman; great-grandchildren Noah, Hope, Siren, Isaiah, Isaac, Matayla, Dale, Andrea, Arlo, Malachi, Kaydince and Johnathan;  and MANY beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, June 28, 2025, with Visitation one hour prior to the service, at the McGregor United Methodist Church. Pastor Diane Brennan officiating. Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home.
