Daniel Scott Touhey, 65, of Elk River, passed away Monday, November 3rd, 2025 in CentraCare - St. Cloud Hospital after a hard battle with an illness that ended quicker than expected. He was born June 23, 1960 in Minneapolis to Bernard and Gayleen (Scheetz) Touhey. Dan was just four minutes older than his twin brother, Doug.
He grew up in Plymouth watching westerns, was a boy scout and played high school hockey. He graduated from Wayzata High School in 1979 and then attended Trinidad State College in Colorado and graduated with an Associate degree in Gunsmithing.
Dan could fix anything, which led him to contractor work and opening his own business, Touhey’s Service & Repair. In 2024, he shut down the business and joined East View Companies.
He was a gun enthusiast and avid outdoorsman. He loved to fish, snowmobile and ride motorcycles. He was a SASS Cowboy Action Shooter member, known by his alias “Leadspittin Lefty.”
He excelled and developed a passion for competition shooting through SASS and “Lefty” was blessed enough to gain a second family. He was a member of the Kimball Rod and Gun Club and one of the founders of the Granite City Gunslinger’s and was heavily involved in the building of the Gunslinger’s cowboy town.
Dan had a gruff exterior but was big-hearted. He was always willing to help you out as the on-call handyman, even if he lectured you a bit before. He was reliable, compassionate and driven. He hated to sit still.
Dan was preceded in death by his father Bernard J. Touhey, his sister-in-law Chris Touhey, his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his mother Gayleen (Sheetz) Touhey of McGregor, brother Tim Touhey of Alexandria, brother Doug Touhey (Teri) of Andover, sister Betsy Touhey of Buffalo, honorary sister Cindy ‘Syd’ (Touhey) Stroozas of Hudson, Wis., two aunts, one uncle and many cousins.
