Darlene Betty Sherrard, age 87 of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025 at the Milaca Elim Home.
Darlene was born April 23, 1938 to Magnus and Eva Westling in Aitkin, MN. She grew up on the family farm near Glen moving to Duluth with her family as a teenager. While living in Duluth, she met her first husband, Jim Taylor, who was stationed at the Air Force base.
Darlene married her second husband, James Sherrard, in 1967 where they resided in St. Paul. Together they were entrepreneurs operating many different businesses. They enjoyed a lake home in Zimmerman and eventually moved to the lake home permanently spending winters in Donna, Texas. After her husband's death, Darlene started downsizing, eventually moving to an apartment in Grand Rapids where she lived the last 9 years of her life.
When she was younger, Darlene enjoyed crocheting, sewing clothes for herself, her children, and her grandchildren, and liked to play games and cards. She enjoyed reading, listening to country music, dancing, and working on puzzles. She loved to reminisce about her family and childhood. Mostly, she loved spending time with family and friends.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband James Sherrard, son Mike Taylor, and granddaughter Caitlin Calgaro.
Darlene is survived by her children Monica (Steve) Carpenter, Shelly (Randy) Jacobsen, and Loni Calgaro (Rick Gruehagen), 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and her sisters Loretta Westerlund and Sandy (Allen) Pearson.
A graveside service will be 11:30am Friday, September 12, 2025 at Malmo Cemetery.
