David Charles Rehwinkle, 74 of Aitkin, passed away Sun. Aug. 9, 2026 at Golden Horizons of Crosslake. He was born Oct 1, 1951 in Lake City the son of Robert and Ione (Growt) Rehwinkle. David never knew his parents, his mother disappeared when he was one and a half years old. Her disappearance became a cold case in Minnesota but recently her case was reopened. Regarding his father Robert, Ancestry DNA confirmed he was David’s father. David was raised by his Grandfather, Roy Growt and then by foster care until Sophie Robertson took him in. When David was 19 he found out he had a sister who was adopted out when Ione disappeared. He was a U.S. Marine Corp. Veteran. David was united in marriage to Christy Susan (Johnson) on January 27, 1974 in Duluth. He worked as a laborer and in maintenance for most of his life.
He was Preceded in death by parents, son David Watterson-Rehwinkle and daughter SueAnn Rehwinkle. David is survived by wife Chris; sons: Steven and Jim (Jammie) Rehwinkle of Aitkin. Grandchilden: Steven Alexander, Michaela Bassett, Charli Norway, Christopher Peer, Colin and Cedric (Alayna) Farnsworth, Dustin Smithson, Jimmy, Avril, Odin, Oscar, Earl and David Rehwinkle; great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Steven and Rosemary Alexander, Estrella, Thalia, Vallah, and Atlas Norway, Sadie Farnsworth, Cabella Boxwell, Lakelynn, Waylon and Nova Anderson; sister: Linda Morgan; nieces, nephews, other special relatives, friends and his dog Winnie.
