David Strelnieks Obituary

David Strelnieks

David John Strelnieks passed away on January 1, 2022, at the age of 52 in McGregor, Minnesota.  David loved traveling, carpentry, and spending time with family and friends. He had a humble, gentle, and comfortable personality. His personable nature created many lifelong friendships in high school. While attending St. Olaf College, David spent a semester abroad in Thailand. After college, David and his good friend Mike Johnson traveled around Alaska. David loved to tell stories of their adventures together. While working at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre, he met his wife, Marilyn. Together, they moved to Bend, Oregon to enjoy life in the mountains. David and Marilyn were married at Lake Tahoe in 1998. It was in Oregon where David discovered his passion for authentic log home construction and mastered the craft. Over his lifetime, he used his skills to construct many log homes in Oregon and Northern Minnesota as well as hundreds of pieces of beautiful log furniture.  After years of travel and living in Oregon, David and family moved back to Minnesota to be closer to family and friends. Being close to family was an understatement as he built his dream log home on Eagle Lake side-by-side with his brother Mark building a cabin and later, his sister Julie building their cabin. After many years, the 3 kids recognized their dream of having the 3 lake homes/cabins side by side on Eagle Lake. For years to come, the families all shared summers on the lake together. David described the lake as a “full-time vacation spot” and spent many evenings on the dock watching beautiful sunsets with his family.  David is survived by his Son Sawyer (Carlie) Strelnieks, Daughter Breana Strelnieks, Mother Irene Bjorklund, Stepfather Bob Bjorklund, Sister Julie (Jeff) Verdoorn, Brother Mark (Kathy) Strelnieks, former wife Marilyn Strelnieks, and many other special relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Helmut Strelnieks.

Dave’s life will be celebrated and remembered Saturday January 15, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Grace Church Chaska (Southwest Christian High School) 1981 Bavaria Road, Chaska, MN 55318. Due to Minnesota’s cold winters and frozen ground, Dave will be buried on May 14 in Cromwell, MN. Time and detail for burial to follow.  Arrangements are with McGregor Funeral Home in McGregor.  www.srtfuneral.com
