David Robert Thompson

April 7, 1955 ~ June 13, 2022 (age 67)

David “Dave” Robert Thompson, 67, of Aitkin, formerly of Columbia Heights, passed away Monday, June 13, 2022 at his home.  Dave was born on April 7, 1955 in Princeton to Robert and Jeanette (Johnson) Thompson. He grew up on Swiss Haven Farm in rural Onamia, contributing greatly to the success of the farm. The family moved to Cove where Dave attended Onamia Public Schools. He excelled at sports and played trumpet in the school band.  Upon graduating from high school in 1973, Dave joined the Air Force. After serving four years, he transferred to the MN Air National Guard. Dave served his country for 26 years and was commissioned to the rank of captain. During the beginning of his career, he graduated from Bethel College in St. Paul. Dave played football for Bethel, was defensive football coach for Anoka-Ramsey Community College and played softball on a variety of teams. Throughout the years he was employed as a construction inspector for engineering companies.  Dave was a member of the VFW and the American Legion where he was actively involved.  No one had a bigger heart for veterans than Dave. His passion was contagious and led him to arrange many fundraising events. Dave took great joy in organizing his yearly ice fishing event at the Veterans Camp on Big Marine Lake. He loved spending time at the camp with his friends during the summer. Dave’s popular booya-making fest also generated funds for veterans annually, earning him the nickname, Booya.

Dave was married to Carol Kondrchek from 1978 to 1991. They lived in Coon Rapids. Dave and Carol were blessed with two daughters, Andrea and RaeAnn.

Dave was married to Lynette Adams from 1992 to 2016. They had a stillborn child, Bradley Charles Thompson. They were blessed to have Marleny join their family in 1996. Dave was ecstatic to have a grandson, Bennett, who became a big part of his life.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Jeanette (Johnson) Thompson of Milaca and infant son, Bradley Thompson.

He is survived by his daughters: Andrea Thompson, RaeAnn (James) Korynta, Marleny (Erik) Olson; brothers: Phil (Vicki) Thompson, Bruce (Lori) Thompson; sister: Mary (Jim) Holt; grandson: Bennett; and many nieces and nephews.
