David John Vopat

David John Vopat, 67, of Sugar Lake, Aitkin passed away August 14, 2019 in Abbott Northwest hospital with his family by his side.  He was born October 9, 1951 in Faulkton, South Dakota to Kenneth and Marjorie (Hoefert) Vopat.  David graduated form Bloomington High School.  David was a farmer at heart and had his own farm in South Dakota.  Due to unforeseen circumstances, David returned home to Sugar Lake where he farmed and did custom painting in the area.  He was such a joy to be around and made everyone happy to just be with him.  There was so much love for everyone in his heart.  He was blessed with being a caregiver and took care of his mother and siblings for years.  David left for Rapid City to care for his two grandchildren 4 years ago.  David was on his way home to Sugar Lake when he fell ill.

David is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Vopat; 2 brothers, Kent and Paul Vopat; sister, Lisa Krueger.

David is survived by his mother and step-father, Marjorie Vopat-Byker and Gerald Byker of Aitkin; his adopted daughter, Alpheia Vopat; 2 grandchildren, Faeden and Aria; siblings, Susan (Jeff) Arneson of Palisade, Mark Vopat of Highmore, South Dakota, Nina (Robert) Mills of Apple Valley, Betsy (Greg) Drehmel of Lakeville; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
