Douglas James Hensel, 75 of Palisade passed away Monday, February 26, 2024 at Grand Village in Grand Rapids. He was born November 28, 1948 in Aitkin to Edwin and Frances (Tibbetts) Hensel. He grew up in the Palisade – Aitkin area and graduated from Aitkin High School in 1966. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran serving in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1970. Douglas worked many jobs including in assembly for Sundstrand Aviation in Rockford, IL. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding ATV, and wildlife conservation. He was a member of the NRA, American Legion, and Palisade VFW Post #1721. He was preceded in death by his parents: Edwin and Frances Hensel, siblings and their spouses: Lucille Hoge, Elizabeth (Chester) Catlin, Joyce (Dick) Laird, Leroy (Beverly) Hensel, Kenneth Hensel, Harriet Simonson, and Sidney Hensel, sister-in-law: Mary Hensel and brother-in-law: Ken Johnson.
Douglas is survived by his 2 children: Shawndee Hensel and Kaeleb Hensel, their mother Charlotte Lee (Hale) Hensel; grandson: Joel Anderson; siblings: Steve (Donna) Hensel, Paulette (Ed) Torgerson, Rodney Hensel, Shirley Kehn Johnson; brother-in-law: Harland Simonson; sisters-in-law: Cookie Hensel and Janice Hensel; and many other special relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
Funeral service will be 11:00am – Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Assembly of God Church in Palisade. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with full military honors will be at Pine Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Aitkin.
