Douglas Willard Olson, 99, of Aitkin, passed away Friday, January 30, 2026. He was born January 5, 1927 in Duluth, the son of Clarence and Florence (Doble) Olson. Doug was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Doug was united in marriage to Mavis Alsaker. He retired from Northwestern Bell in 1982 after 30 years of service. After retirement, Doug and Mavis relocated from Brookly Center to Aitkin. It was then that he kept busy building their retirement home, learning to fly and pilot his own plane, learning and playing golf, traveling, engineering and running his own sawmill and volunteering at the Aitkin County Depot Museum.
Douglas is preceded in death by his wife, Mavis who passed in 2020; his parents; brother, Clarence and sister, Betty Stromdahl.
Douglas is survived by his children, Kris (Mike Pliml), John Olson and Kay (Mitch Stanley); 4 grandsons, Andrew Pliml, Jack Pliml, Jacob Stanley and Joshua Stanley; sister, Joan Duff.
