Long-time area resident, Elsie Kirstine Specht, age 98, passed away Friday, May 10, 2024 at her home in Aitkin. Elsie was born January 18, 1926 to Hans and Caroline (Christensen) Hansen in Spencer Township. She attended Aitkin School and graduated in 1944. After marrying George, they worked many long, hard years on the farm in Cedar Brook. Later she went to work for the local Sheriff’s office until her retirement. After retiring, she enjoyed spending time in her garden tending to her flowers and sharing many vegetables and berries with friends and neighbors. Throughout her life she cared for others. She will be remembered as a hard-working, kind and caring person.
Elsie is survived by her daughter, Betty and son-in-law, Joe Balk; sisters, Carol Jackson of Boca Raton, Florida, Karen Waselchalk and her husband, Don of Isle of Palms, South Carolina. She is also survived by long-time friend Bill Thompson (BT) and special friend and caregiver, Brian Roettger along with several nieces and nephews.
Elsie is preceded in death by her parents, Hans and Caroline Hansen; former husband, George Specht; brothers, Charlie Hoffman, James Hansen and Fritz Hansen; sisters, Ruth Gray, Hazel Lofgren, Helen Johnson and Betty Beck.
Services will be Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 11 AM in St. Johns Lutheran Church, Aitkin with Pastor David Becker officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
