Evelyn Marie (Sedlander) Turnock

Evelyn Marie (Sedlander) Turnock, age 94 of McGregor died Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the Aitkin Health Services in Aitkin.

Evelyn was born June 15, 1924 at Cromwell, Minnesota the daughter of John Arthur and Selma (Stoner) Sedlander. She grew up and attended schools in Cromwell where she graduated from the Cromwell High School in 1942. She then attended secretarial school in Duluth. She returned to Cromwell and worked at the Cromwell Coop. Evelyn married Chester Turnock on October 2, 1943 in Cromwell. She had worked as a secretary for the Lawler Local Farmers Union. She also milked cows and fed dairy calves until the herd was sold in 2000. She was an avid baker. Members of the community knew her as “Coffee Grandma” as she served coffee and homemade cookies each day at 10 AM and 3 PM. She has a gift of remembering history and a willingness to share it. She also loved gardening and canning. She loved flowers and was an avid bird watcher.

She was preceded in death by her parents John Arthur and Selma Sedlander, Husband Chester in 1985, brother John R. Sedlander, and brother-in-law Lawrence Turnock.

She is survived by her two sons: Franklin and Darlene Turnock of McGregor, Kevin Turnock and Jean Rian of McGregor; brother: Charles (Karen) Sedlander of Cromwell, grandchildren: Melanie (Dan) Guida of Tamarack, Samantha (Arturo) Mendiola of Minneapolis, Nathan Turnock of Farmington, Step grandchildren: Duane Lindgren, Michael Lindgren, Shawn Lindgren, Nathan Lindgren, and Heather Lindgren; great grandchildren: Ava Guida, Garrett Guida, Hazel Guida, Mila Turnock, Penelope Mendiola, Mason Guida, step great grandchildren: Josh Lindgren, Sadie Perrine and Reid Lindgren; and many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 11 AM at the McGregor United Methodist Church with Coffee being served along with the visitation at 10 AM until the 11 AM services. Lay Pastor Diane Brennan will be officiating. Visitation will also be Friday from 4 to 7 PM at the McGregor United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the spring at the Salo Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Gary Allison, Bryan Sedlander, Jeff Sedlander, Keith Turnock, Mike Turnock and Roger Yotter. Honorary pallbearers will be: Brian Alberg, David Alberg, Lyle Almquist, Lee Anderson, Rollie Brockman, Paul Goble, Dan Isley, Bob Reich, Darrel Turnock, and Richard Turnock.
