Frances R. “Franky” Newton, age 85, Sugar Lake (Glen Township, MN) died peacefully at home May 9. 2024. Born August 30, 1938 in Grand Forks, ND, Franky lived for periods in Bemidji, MN, St. Paul, MN, Quincy, IL, Richfield, MN, eventually to Sugar Lake. She attended school in Bemidji, MN through her junior year, then moved to Quincy, IL graduating in 1957. She attended MacMurray college for three years, completing her education in X-ray technology at Mt. Sinai hospital in Minneapolis. On September 10, 1960, Franky married Daniel Newton in Quincy, IL. They purchased a home in Richfield, MN. Fran and Dan retired in 1988 and in 1992 sold the Richfield residence and purchased a home on Sugar Lake. Franky was an avid golfer, bridge player, and boater. She loved to fish on her pontoon. She was preceded in death by husband of 48 years Daniel, parents Raymond and Dorothy (Parmater) Voorhees, brother George Voorhees. Franky is survived by daughter Kathy (Steve) Ross, son David Newton, grandchildren Tony Ross, Haley Skiple (Ben), great-grandchild Carson Skiple, best friend Janet Brandmill.
