Gary Hubert Volkman

Gary Hubert Volkman, 80, of Aitkin, MN, died Thursday, August 7, 2025 at his home.  He was born on March 18, 1945 in Winona, MN, the first of 3 sons, to Hubert and Hildegard (Semmen) Volkman. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1963. Gary was a US Air Force Veteran serving in the Vietnam War, he was honorably discharged. He married Sharon Barr on February 8, 1969, they later divorced; they had 3 daughters together. Gary was united in marriage to Patricia (McKinney) on January 12, 1988. Gary was a lifelong truck driver and farmer. He had many adventures and stories to tell and never met a stranger. He loved spending time with family and friends near and far.  His favorite pastime was fishing.

Gary is survived by his daughters: Heidi Taylor (John) of Red Wing, Lisa Tuerk (Ken Rackow) of Stewartville, Michele Piispanen (Dan) of Aitkin; Grandchildren: Linsey Taylor, Mitchel Taylor, Danielle Ericson (Brandon), Dylan Tuerk (Nicole Laue), Ashley Douglass (Cooper) Samantha Piispanen (Jake), Madison Piispanen; Great-grandchildren: Brooklyn and Brynlee Ericson, Colton Tuerk; Brothers: Bruce Volkman (Sherry) and Mark Volkman (Dawn); He is also survived by an aunt, an uncle, nieces, nephews and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, daughter Katie Volkman, step-daughter Jane Christensen and his parents.

Services with full military honors will be 11am – Friday, August 29, 2025 at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley, Little Falls.  Chaplain Greg Valentine will be the officiant.  A gathering of family and friends for lunch and fellowship will follow the service and will be announced at that time.  Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Aitkin.  To leave a message of condolence please go to www.srtfuneral.com
