Gerald “Gerry” William Delaney, 77, of Aitkin died Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin.  He was born October 29, 1941 in Perham to Lawrence John and Clara Marie (Kern) Delaney.  He graduated from Perham High School in 1959 and joined the U.S. Army.  He was Honorably Discharged in 1962.  He attended Rochester Junior College, then St. Cloud State University, and then the University of Minnesota where he earned a Master of Arts Degree in Industrial Relations. 

Gerry was united in marriage to Linda Marie (Rapp) June 3, 1967 in Rochester.  He worked in Industrial and Labor Relations with Shell Oil Co., North Star Steel, and Northrup King, and then in Sales and Marketing for Teemark in Aitkin. He was passionate about his family, his Church and Music. He loved to throw his energy into any home project.  He enjoyed rose gardening, purple martens and hunting and fishing with family.  He was a school volunteer, a member of the Rotary Club, First Lutheran Church and the church council, 4-H, and Friends of the Library.  He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Clara Delaney and 2 brothers: Tom Delaney and Lawrence “Sonny” Delaney, Jr.,

Gerry is survived by his wife Linda Delaney of Aitkin,

Daughter Trista Delaney of Middleburg, Fl.,

Daughter and son in law: Laura Delaney-Pence and Bret Pence of Duluth,

Son and daughter in law: Matthew (Rachel) Delaney of East Gull Lake,

Grandsons Colin, Davey, and William,

Brothers: Patrick (Julie) Delaney of Fridley,

Mike Delaney (Trish Roberts) of Lake Havasu City, AZ.,

Sisters: Mary (Mark) Husser of Altura,

Louise “Lyn” Moeller of Eagan,

Margaret “Marge” Magistad (Jerry Warkel) of Roseville,

Many special family members and friends.

 

Funeral service will be 11:00A.M. – Thursday, May 2, 2019 at First Lutheran Church in Aitkin.  Reverend Doug Larson will officiate.  Military honors will be accorded by Aitkin VFW Post #1727 and Aitkin American Legion Post #86.  Visitation will be 5 to 7P.M. – Wednesday at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin and will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley, Little Falls.  Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Aitkin.  www.srtfuneral.com Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
