Gloria Janet (Clark) Carlson

Gloria Janet Carlson, 88, of Lone Lake, Aitkin, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2025 in Heartwood Care Center, Crosby.  She was born July 8, 1936 in Denver, Colorado to Edgar and Adeline Clark.

At age 2, her family of 7 travelled to Waukesha, Wisconsin where they settled until she was in the 8th grade.  They moved to Minneapolis where she attended Marshall High school and met her high school sweetheart Sonny.  They dated for 6 years.

She graduated in 1954 and began to pursue her dream to become a nurse.  She became an LPN at the Swedish Hospital in 1956 and after further training, was certified in Surgical Nursing at Miller Hospital in St. Paul.

Glo and Sonny were married on August 1, 1959 at Central Free Church in Minneapolis. They made a great team for 52 years. She supported him in his careers of teaching, coaching and ministries, and he supported her as a housewife and mother, along with her creative businesses and crafts. Together they were very active in the outdoors: skiing, hiking, water skiing, fishing, and life at the lake. Glo also enjoyed cooking, gardening and china painting. She was a valued and respected member of the Minnesota Porcelain Art Guild for many years.

Glo’s love for the Lord and people, her enthusiasm and friendliness made her a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend.  She made friends easy, from small children to her nurses and aides at the Care Center.

Gloria is preceded in death by her husband, Sonny; granddaughter, Timber Faith Curtis; siblings, Kenneth Clark, Tita Varner and Eddie Clark.

She is survived by her children, DeeAnn (John) Themmes and Michael Carlson; grandson, River Curtis; sister, Elizabeth Varner; brother-in-law, Tom Varner; cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be Friday, April 4, at 1 PM in Glory Baptist Church, Aitkin.  Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church.  Private interment will be in Glory Cemetery, Aitkin.  To leave a message of condolence, please visit:  www.srtfuneral.com.
