Helen Workman Obituary

Helen Joyce Workman of Aitkin passed away in the early morning hours of November 28, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. She was 74 years old.  Helen was born November 7, 1949 in Aitkin to Sigurd and Anna Lucille “Lucy” (Erickson) Swanson.  She graduated in 1967 from Aitkin High School alongside her high school sweetheart, Jeffrey Joseph Workman.  They were united in marriage  on January 4, 1969 in Aitkin.  They made their home in Aitkin and together, raised three children.  Helen spent many years working as a Title 1 teacher at Rippleside Elementary School in Aitkin.  She made many lasting friendships and memories there and impacted the lives of so many children and adults alike.  There is nothing that brought Helen more joy than watching her family grow and welcoming her grandchildren into the world.  Family was very important to her.  She was preceded in death by her parents: Sigurd and Lucy  Swanson, 2 brothers: Alan and Gary Swanson; brother-in-law James Christian Holm and her grandson Spencer Workman.  

Helen is survived by her husband Jeff Workman;  Sons and daughters-in-law: Michael (Carrie) Workman and Brett (Megan) Workman; Daughter Amy Workman (David Schwartz);  Many very beloved grandchildren: Kirk (Amber) Workman, Kegan (Nicole) Workman, Anastasia Workman, Lexi Workman, Bowan Workman, Jack Workman, Hayden Workman, Luke Workman, Finn Workman, Cohen Workman, Hayley Amundson, Kelsey Amundson, Madilyn Amundson, Orrin Workman; 4 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren;  Sisters: Karen Holm, Linda (Glen) Bakken and Darlene (Frank) Horvath;  Brother Clyde Swanson;  Sisters-in-law: Karen (Dale) Holm and Bonnie Peterson;  Many other special relatives and friends who mourn her passing.  From her siblings to her nieces and nephews, aunts, and uncles and so many more. Nothing meant more to her than her family that she loved unconditionally.

Funeral service will be 11:00am – January 13, 2024 at Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Aitkin.  Pastor David Becker will officiate.  Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church.  Go to www.srtfuneral.com to leave a message of condolence.  Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Aitkin.
