Jack LaVon Thompson, 82, of Aitkin, formerly of Garrison, passed away Monday, November 21, 2022 in St. Cloud V.A. Hospital, St. Cloud. He was born July 29, 1940 in Spirit Lake, Iowa to LaVon and Irene (Weaver) Thompson. Jack graduated from Bradley High School in South Dakota. After graduating, Jack joined the United States Navy and served during Vietnam from 1960-1969. Jack then worked at Northwestern Bell from 1969-1981 and logged from 1981-1984. After logging, Jack owned and operated Jack’s Twin Bay Resort on Mille Lacs Lake from 1985-1993. After selling the resort, Jack worked for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Housing Department from 1993 until his retirement in 2010. Jack enjoyed riding motorcycle, fishing and ice fishing. He loved to build, create and tinker and was always helping people with projects and chores. Jack loved good food and believed that a sandwich always tasted better when someone else made it. Jack will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Frances; parents; son, Wayne Thompson; granddaughter, Andrea Schueller; siblings, Connie Olson and Tom Thompson.
Jack is survived by his children, Lee Thompson of Garrison and Jacqueline Myers of Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Judy Thompson of Aitkin; grandchildren, Thomas Thompson, Cheryl Pojanowski; Stephen (Victoria) Schueller, Randy Thompson, Mary Thompson, Darrell (Jillian) Thompson, Amanda Geisthardt and Mindy (Ben) DeCoursey; great grandchildren, Bella, Artie, Andrea, Lindley, Abel, Natalie, Addisyn, John, Olivia and Alex; great great grandchild, Ella; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held Friday, December 2, 2022 at 11 AM in Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Military Honors will be provided by Aitkin American Legion Post #86 and Aitkin V.F.W. Post #1727. To sign the guestbook online, go to: www.srtfuneral.com.
