Jason Adam Gauwitz, 46, of Hibbing, Minnesota, passed away on June 12, 2026, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota.  Jason was born on December 19, 1979, in Hibbing, Minnesota, to Jeffory Gauwitz and Brenda Pearson. He spent his life in the Iron Range community he loved, where he worked at Hibbing Taconite, proudly following in his father's footsteps.  To know Jason was to love him. He had the biggest heart, a quick wit, and a gift for making everyone around him smile. Whether he was spinning one of his legendary stories or breaking into a spontaneous dance move, Jason had a way of lighting up any room he walked into. He was truly one of a kind, and his warmth and humor left a lasting mark on everyone who crossed his path.  Family and friends were the center of Jason's world, and he cherished those relationships deeply. He absolutely adored his daughter, Hailey, and would melt the moment she needed anything; there was nothing he wouldn't do for her. He was equally proud of his sister, Jen, and would tell anyone who would listen just how amazing both Hailey and Jen were. His love for them was written all over his face and woven into nearly every conversation he had. And no matter how old he got, he never stopped asking his mom, Brenda, to make him a batch of her cookies, a simple tradition that spoke volumes about the warmth of their bond. Jason had a way of bringing out the best in the people who loved him.  He had a special love for his classic car, a treasured piece of family history passed down from his grandfather, and believed firmly that the louder the exhaust, the better. He was a talented mechanic, and tinkering was both his passion and his art. His beloved dog, Kylie, was his constant companion, and he never missed a chance to share her latest photos and videos with anyone who would look.

Jason is survived by his daughter, Hailey Gauwitz; his mother and stepfather, Brenda (Dwight) Pearson; his sister, Jen (Lito) Burgos; his nieces and nephews, Owen Weyer and Maharlika, Gianna, and Mateo Burgos; dear friends Kristina, Lloyd, Nick, Jodi, Gary, Sonny, Cowboy, Nate and Al; and a wide circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.  He was preceded in death by his father, Jeffory Gauwitz; his grandparents, Norman and Caroline (Binder Gauwitz) Kawell, Gene Gauwitz, Delano Nelson, and Louis and Janice (Nelson) Drescich; his uncle, Gregory Gauwitz; his uncle, Danny Nelson; and his aunt, Yvonne Simon.

Jason will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May he rest in the peace he so richly deserves, remembered always for his laughter, his love, and the irreplaceable light he brought to this world.

Memorial service will be 11am – Saturday, July 18, 2026 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Akeley.  Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be in Akeley City Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Aitkin.  to leave a message of condolence go to www.srtfuneral.com
