Joan E. (Carlson) Christensen

Joan E. Christensen, age 90 of Aitkin died Monday, February 24, 2020 at her home.

Joan was born October 1. 1929 in Brainerd, Mn. the daughter of Harry A.M. and Mabel (Welton) Carlson. They lived in Ironton where Joan attended schools and then they moved to Aitkin where she continued her schooling graduating from the Aitkin High School in 1947. She married William “Bill”  V. Christensen on August 14, 1948 in Aitkin. They made their home in Aitkin and raised their family here. She helped her husband Bill run Christensen’s Minnows for 39 years. They retired from the business in 1999. Joan also did day care for many years starting in 1967 until 1988. Her first job was at the Rialto Theater in Aitkin and she then went on to work at the Akey’s Supermarket in Aitkin. She was a member of the Aitkin United Methodist Church, Aitkin Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Aitkin Historical Society, and the Daughters of the Nile. She enjoyed Bingo, traveling, doing Sudoku, and jig saw puzzles. Her most favorite thing to do was to go to Jim and Cindy’s cabin and sit on the porch watching the lake.

Joan is survived by 2 sons: Jim (Cindy) Christensen of Aitkin, Brian (Rhonda Staum) Christensen of Aitkin; Daughter: Julie Nordean of Aitkin; Daughter in law: Patsy Christensen; 10 Grandchildren: Andrea Bloom, Adrienne Christensen, William C. Christensen, Jamie Boehlke, Matt Christensen, Kyle Christensen, Nick Christensen, Adam Christensen, Mali Wasserzieher, Dan Nordean; 3 Great Grandchildren: Tyler Bloom, Ava Boehlke, Axel Orin-Christensen; Sister: Marilyn Hendrickson of Crosby. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband: William “Bill” V. Christensen, Son: William “Bill” R. Christensen, Granddaughter: Annette Christensen, Brother: Harry Carlson, Son in law: Dale Nordean and daughter in law: Mary Christensen. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 6, 2020 at 1 PM from the Aitkin United Methodist Church in Aitkin with Rev. Dawn Hauser officiating. Visitation will be from 11 AM until the 1 PM services at the church. Interment will be in the spring at the Lakeview Cemetery in Aitkin. Arrangements are with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
