Joan Ann Diedrich, 77 of Aitkin died Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin. She was born January 19, 1943 in Adrian, MN. to William Henry and Marie Esther(Hug) Halbur. She graduated from Mankato School of Business in 1962 earning an A.A. degree in Business. In the 1980’s She attended Des Moines Area Community College earning a degree as a paralegal. Joan was united in marriage to Sivar “Si” John Diedrich on October 12, 1963 in Iona, MN. She worked as a payroll clerk for Kato Engineering in Mankato, a Para Professional for Webster City Schools in Webster City, Iowa, a legal assistant for Hamilton County Attorney in Iowa, court attendant in the 2nd Judicial District for the State of Iowa retiring in 1999. She was president of the Council of Catholic Women (C.C.W.) at Saint James Catholic Church in Aitkin and president of the Brainerd Deanery of the C.C.W. Joan and “Si” purchased property on Farm Island Lake in 1991 and spent many weekends on the lake. They moved there full time in 1999 after retirement. Joan enjoyed quilting, volunteering at church and gardening. She loved being with her grandchildren, family, and friends at the lake. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Esther Krause, brother Paul Halbur, and grandchild Nathaniel Belew.

Son and daughter-in-law: Eric (Cathy) Diedrich of Radcliffe, Iowa and grandchildren: Alyssa Diedrich of Des Moines and Brayton Diedrich of Radcliffe, IA.
Daughter and son-in-law: Melanie (Bernard) Oleksa of Jesup, Iowa and grandchildren: Brittany (Jake) Menn of Denver , CO; Sarah Roby of Waterloo, IA., Tyler Roby of Denver, CO., IA., Isaiah Belew of Cedar Rapids, IA., Makayla Belew of Cedar Rapids, IA.., Ben, Zach and Alex Belew of Jesup, IA.
Brothers and sisters-in-law: Virgil (Lucille) Halbur of Slayton, Ralph (Geraldine) Halbur of Pipestone, Marvin (Ilo) Halbur of Plymouth,

Sister: Delores Ella of Worthington.

Funeral Service will be 11:00A.M. – Friday, March 13, 2020 at Saint James Catholic Church in Aitkin. Father David Forsman will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7P.M. Thursday with a Rosary starting at 7:00P.M. at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be in Bennettville Cemetery.
