Joanne Wanda (Menter) Montes

It is with great sadness than we share the news of  Joanne Wanda (Menter) Montes, 85, of Jacobson, passing away peacefully, on Friday, August 29, 2025 in Golden Horizons of Aitkin.  Joanne was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend.  She was born June 21, 1940 in Aitkin to Ralph and Florence (Sutherland) Menter.  Joanne worked at Sears on Lake St. in Minneapolis in the 70’s and 80’s.  In 1989, Joanne moved to the farm to help her take care of her sister, Florentine, who had down syndrome.  Later, taking care of her parents.  After the passing of her folks, Joanne worked as a home health aide in the McGregor area until 2021.  Joanne enjoyed bowling in a league for many years.  Joanne especially enjoyed spending time with her family.  She was deeply loved by all and will be forever missed.

Joanne is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Florantine; daughter, Sherrie Platter and brother, Ralph Menter.

Joanne is survived by daughter, Tammy (Platter) Heikkila; 2 sons, Dwayne Platter and Chris Platter; grandchildren; great grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Gould and Rosemary (Jerry) Fisher; brother, John; nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be Saturday, December 6 at 11 AM in Grace Lutheran Church, McGregor.  Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be in Pine Needle Cemetery, McGregor.  To leave a message of condolence, please visit:  www.srtfuneral.com.  Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Aitkin.
