John Born Obituary

John Warner Born, 82, of Aitkin, passed on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at his home.  John was born on October 21, 1941 in Pipestone to Victor and Margaret (Bosacker) Born.  He grew up in southwestern Minnesota and graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1959.  He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1959 to 1963.  He was an over-the-road truck driver, a member of Teamsters Local #120 for forty accident-free years.  John was also a member of American Legion Post #118 of Wayzata and later American Legion Post #86 of Aitkin.  John enjoyed fishing and hunting and was an enthusiastic follower of sports.

John was united in marriage to Karen Moriarty on December 16, 1967 and resided in Wayzata where they raised their three children.  They moved to Aitkin in 2005 and he loved every day of life in Aitkin where they connected with old friends and made many new ones.  He treasured every one of them.  John had an outgoing and friendly personality, a farm boy at heart.

Affectionately known by his children as “the old man”, he was a proud and loving father and grandfather.  He especially enjoyed telling stories about his time playing the piano in the high school marching band and his efforts to train a pet mouse for a career in movies.  John left behind a legacy of laughter and unbelievable stories.  Our hearts are broken from losing him but full from loving him and being loved by him.

John is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Born; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Moriarty and brother-in-law, Verne Butler, Jr.

John is survived by his wife, Karen; children, Katy Born of Plymouth, Stephen Born of Rogers and David (Jen) Born of Plymouth; grandchildren, Jacob and Allison Born and Ruby Gehrman; sister, Margo Devlin of Plymouth; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Butler of St. Paul; brothers-in-law, Denny (Lisa) Moriarty of Stillwater, Dan Moriarty of Aitkin and Tim (Jan) Moriarty of Aitkin; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
