John Lewis Pierson

John Lewis Pierson, age 90, of Farm Island, Aitkin, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 20, 2025.

John was born on October 5, 1934, in Browerville, Minnesota, to Arvid and Hazel (Larson) Pierson and grew up on a dairy farm. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later graduated from Northwestern Television and Electronics School in 1955. On July 25, 1959, he married the love of his life, Josephine Landowski, and moved to Bloomington, Minnesota. John worked his entire career at Rosemont in the aerospace division and met all the astronauts involved in making it to the moon and beyond.

An avid outdoorsman, John found great joy in hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening. He remained active in the local trap shooting league and archery deer hunting which he continued to participate in until his passing. His love of the outdoors was matched only by his devotion to his family and community.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Josephine, and his parents, Arvid and Hazel Pierson.

John is survived by his brother Roger (Joyce) Pierson; sons: Bruce, Gerald (Janet), and Dale (Donna) Pierson. Grandchildren: Victoria (Beau) Schmaltz, Andrew (Teresa) Pierson, Zachary (Kelsey) Pierson and Tyler Reichenborn. Great-grandchildren: Nolan and Mason Schmaltz; Oliver, Emerson, Finley and Violet Pierson; Niece: Lori (Mark) Waltzer and Nephew: Gary (Kay) Pierson. 

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Full military honors will be provided by the Aitkin American Legion Post #86 and Aitkin V.F.W. Post #1727. A luncheon and refreshments will be held immediately following the service at the Aitkin American Legion Post #86.  A private interment will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.
