John (Johnny) Richard Wasik, 83, of McGregor, MN, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Johnny was born July 16, 1941, in Fridley the son of Lloyd and Dorothy (Russ) Wasik. He graduated from St Francis High School in 1959. He was then drafted into the US Army, where he served his tour of duty in Germany, working with the early drone systems, a role that reflected both his technical abilities and commitment to duty. After returning home, Johnny pursued further education at the Lumber Grading School in Memphis, Tennessee. His career in lumber took root at Youngblood Lumber in Minneapolis, where he worked for 28 years with dedication and expertise. Johnny later transitioned into real estate and then trucking, eventually founding his own company. His work took him across the country, fueling his love for travel and adventure. Johnny retired to McGregor in 2010 – a place close to his heart since childhood. In retirement he found purpose and joy through service and community. He was an active member of his local church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), where he developed deep, lifelong friendships and mentored many on their journey to recovery. A man of many passions, John especially loved restoring and cruising Lake Minnewawa in ‘Miss Minne’ his beloved Correct Craft boat. His hands were never idle, whether fixing an engine, lending support to a friend, giving a ride or simply enjoying the simple beauty of a lake sunset. Johnny is survived by his older brother Robert Wasik, younger sister Leona Williams, many nephews and nieces, good friends David Robb, Kenton and Deb Dean, and his extended family in AA, who brought him immense joy and companionship throughout his life. Johnny will be remembered for his grit, generosity and unwavering loyalty to those he loved. His journey was one of resilience, reflection and renewal – a testament to a life well lived.
