Judith Walsh, 82, of Aitkin, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away Monday, June 30, 2025 in Golden Horizons, Aitkin. She was born June 22, 1943 to Charles and Virginia (Audette) Bernard and raised in Grand Rapids. Her parents had 4 children, Judy’s 2 older brothers, Melvin (deceased) and Dennis, and her younger sister, Sandy.
Judy was united in marriage to Thomas Walsh on November 30, 1963 in Grand Rapids.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Walsh; her sons, Kevin (Carol), Christopher (Sandra), Harvey (Katrin), and Tony (Penny) and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Judy was an amazing caregiver and always put the needs of others ahead of her own. This applied to her career as a mammogram tech and her roles as mother, wife, and friend. With love and enthusiasm, she welcomed people into her circle, becoming the stand-in mom for two of her daughters-in-law. Babies were her specialty and she adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a generous and stellar cook, always making sure everyone else had food before she ate.
Judy loved an adventure and rarely said no to new experiences. She left northern MN to go to nursing school in the Twin cities. Her intrepid spirit led her to hike Arizona mountains, jump in Minnesota lakes, travel the Northwest Passage to Alaska, and try new foods wherever she travelled. She loved to see the world: Italy, Dominican Republic, Ireland, and many, many trips to Mexico. She made friends easily and loved to trade stories and throw her head back in laughter.
Her biggest adventure was 62 years of marriage to Tom Walsh. They were a team through good times and bad. Together they raised 4 crazy boys (who married well) and welcomed numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren into the world. They also lived through the loss of beloved friends and family. For the last few years of her life, he became the caregiver, and their bond, heart and soul, became stronger through the struggle.
A celebration of life will be announced to family and friends at a later date.
