Obituary of Katherine M. Kokesh

 

It is with great sadness that the family of Katherine M. Kokesh, has announced her passing due to cardiac arrest, on March 6, 2019, at the age of 75 years.  She was born in Hopkins, Minn. on September 22, 1943. Katherine was married to Duane “Bucky” Weitnauer for 24 years. Together, they have three sons Cletis, Curtis (Angela), and Clayton (Susan) Weitnauer.  Katherine is survived by brothers Robert (Nancy), Mark (Colleen), Neil (Carolyn), Tony (Melinda) Kokesh, and sisters Mary Henry (Jim), Jan Post (Dale), and Chris Kokesh. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Michael (Lauren) Weitnauer, Cletis, Marcus, and Cameron Weitnauer, Andy (Laura) Weitnauer, and Heidi Robinson (Ross) and great-grandchildren Scout and Luke Weitnauer, Lainey, Greta, and Lucy Weitnauer and Riley, Reegan, and Reese Robinson. She was preceeded in death by her parents Robert and Jeanette (Randall) Kokesh, siblings Guy, Andy, Luke, and Connie Kokesh and her beloved grandson, Luke Weitnauer.

 

Known to most as Grandma Kathy, her greatest pleasure was found in caring for others. She was a successful businesswoman as the proprietor of the Y Club in Garrison, the 40 Club Restaurant, Motel, and Convention Center in Aitkin, and Merlin’s Family Restaurant in Princeton. She volunteered for many local organizations including schools, churches, and food shelves. She loved playing games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cards with her friends. She made the best cookies, banana bread and potato salad.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Grandma Kathy on Friday, March 15, at 2:00 pm., at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 27332 Central St., Garrison, Minn. with Fr. Kevin Anderson, presiding. Visitation one hour prior. Reception immediately following at the Andrew F. Kokesh VFW Post 1816 at 27234 Monroe Street, Garrison, MN 56450.

 

Memorial donations may be made to “Kathy Kokesh Memorial” at Bremer Bank. Funds will be used to support the organizations Grandma Kathy loved the most.
