Kathryn Falk Obituary

Kathryn Joann Falk (Jansma), 81, of Aitkin, passed away peacefully in hospice surrounded by her family at Rivers Edge Assisted Living on Friday, March 29, 2024.  She was born July 2, 1942 in Albert Lea to Gordon and Marguerite (Brenizer) Jansma.  Kathryn grew up in Albert Lea and Marengo, Iowa.  After high school, she attended college in Iowa and received an R.N. Degree in Nursing.  Kathryn married Spencer Randall and from that union, daughters Elizabeth and Susan were born.  Later Kathryn and Spencer divorced and Kathy pursued her career in nursing.  She moved to Virginia, MN and then to Aitkin where she met her present husband, Douglas Falk.  They were married July 27, 1996 and had many wonderful years together.  Kathy’s many hobbies included gardening, growing beautiful flowers, canning, antiquing with friends, decorating for every holiday and season and was a talented seamstress.  She loved her potting shed that Douglas built for her and spending time in there with her friends and grandchildren.  She had fairy tea parties with her grandchildren which they still talk about today.  Kathy loved singing in the church choir and received many state awards during her high school years.  She loved to travel and took many trips with Elizabeth and later with her husband, Doug.  In Aitkin, besides being in administration at the Aitkin Hospital, she was an advocate for victims of domestic abuse and a member of the Aitkin Chamber of Commerce.

Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Michael Jansma and niece, Lisa Barret (Jansma).

Kathryn is survived by husband, Douglas; daughters, Elizabeth (Paul) Hyser and Susan (Dylan) Johnson; step-daughters, Kristin (Tony) Jacobson, Kathi (Bob) Deflorin; grandchildren, Raija Johnson, Matt Johnson, Mae Hyser, Janie Hyser, Allison Fairchild, Arika Christenson; great grandchildren, Will and Millie Christenson; brother, Dr. David (Pat) Jansma; nephew, Steven Jansma.

We offer our deepest thanks to the staff at Rivers Edge who cared and loved her like family.  A special thank you to Pastor Dallas Smith and the hospice staff.  Memorials are preferred in memory of Kathryn to The Alzheimer’s Association of Minnesota, https://www.alz.org/mnnd.
