Larry Lewellyn Bates

Larry Lewellyn Bates, 84, of McGregor, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2024 surrounded by his family.  He was born October 20, 1939 in Clear Lake, South Dakota to Eli and Christine (Oleson) Bates.  Larry moved to Minnesota at an early age.  He graduated from Lynd High School in southwestern Minnesota where he met his wife, Penny.  They married in 1958 and would have celebrated 66 years of marriage in 2024.  Larry worked as a welder for 40 years with the same company until he retired in 2004.  In 2006, they moved to McGregor permanently.  Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, boating and traveling to Arizona in the winter.

Larry is preceded in death by his son, Steven; parents, Eli and Tina Bates; brother, Dwain.

Larry is survived by his wife, Penny; children, Douglas (Jackie), Karen (John) Kallinen; daughter-in-law, Katie; grandchildren, Alan, Cassie, Hannah, Jessica, Samantha, Richie and Eric; great grandchildren, Evelyn, Elijah, Ezra Lewellyn, James, Callista, Armani, Anthony and Brycen; brother, Carl; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
