Marilyn Dolores Boucher, 88, passed away at Aitkin Health Services on January 9th, 2026. Marilyn was born on February 14th, 1937, to Harold and Evelyn (Aune) Johnson in Moose Lake, MN. She was raised on a farm SE of Aitkin, MN where she loved the outdoors, riding her horses, working with her dad on the farm and spending time with her cousins. She attended Aitkin schools and graduated from Aitkin High School in 1954. She married Don Schlagel in 1955 and they had four children. For many years, she and her husband operated a turkey farm West of Aitkin and in 1972 they opened a real estate business. Marilyn became a real estate broker and was one of the pioneers for women in business in the Aitkin area. She continued to work in real estate until her retirement in 2008. Many people in the area fondly remember Marilyn as being the person that helped them buy their first, or in some cases, retirement property in the Aitkin area.
On November 30th 1985, Marilyn married Dwaine Boucher. They enjoyed being part of a card club, playing in poker tournaments, deer and goose hunting at the farm and traveling to visit family and friends. After the passing of Marilyn’s mother, Dewey and Marilyn moved back to the farm that she grew up on, that she loved and referred to as “her happy place”. She would feed the deer, the birds, ride their side-by-side through the trails on their property and genuinely enjoy the peace and solace the outdoors provided for her as a child and as an adult. In June of 2018 Marilyn moved from the farm to Blackrock Terrace in Aitkin where she enjoyed playing cards with her neighbors and was good friends with many of her new neighbors. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Aitkin.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Dwaine Boucher, her parents, uncles, aunts and several cousins.
She is survived by her children Steven (Sue) Schlagel, Jeffrey (Laura) Schlagel, Kathy (Rod) Sparks and Wendy (Joel) Holden, 15 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Services for Marilyn will be at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Aitkin on Monday, January 26th, at 11am with Pastor Ben Hollingsead officiating. Visitation will be from 10 am to 11 am at the church with lunch following the service. To leave a message of condolence, please visit: www.srtfuneral.com.
