Marlyce June Gustafson, 94 of Aitkin passed away March 22, 2022 at Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin. She was born September 11, 1927 in Aitkin to Alfred and Anna Sophia (Westerberg) Spute. She grew up in Glen and attended the Isle of Pine Grade School of Malmo Township and graduated from Aitkin High School. She attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a Teachers Degree in Home Economics. She was a teacher at Mora for 2 years and in Minneapolis Schools of Olson Jr. High, Franklin, and Patrick Henry. She was a member of the AAUW women’s group and the Alumni Association. Upon retirement Marlyce and her husband Burton built a home on Big Pine Lake and enjoyed many years there. Marlyce was an active member of the Glen Community Church all her life, serving on the church board for many years. She also worshiped at the Pine Lake Chapel during the Winter season. For a very long time Marlyce chaired the Christian Women’s Club in Aitkin until it’s closure. Marlyce’s family is very appreciative of the loyalty and support shown from so many friends and medical staff over the recent years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Burton Gustafson and her parents.
Marlyce is survived by her sister Carol Todd;
Nephews: Marshall (Jane) Todd and Richard (Jill) Todd;
Niece: Margaret (Dave) Beck;
Grand-nephews & Grand-nieces: Maxwell Todd, Samuel Todd, Wayne Todd, Aubrey Todd, Karin Beck and other special relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 12:00pm – Saturday, June 25 at Glory Baptist Church, Aitkin. Pastor Randy Stauter will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Lunch will follow the service. A private family burial will be in Malmo Cemetery later this summer. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Glen Community Church.
