Marlyn Roger Eklund, 88 of Aitkin and formerly of Malmo passed away Monday, November 20, 2023 at Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin. He was born September 4, 1935 in Aitkin County to Elmer G. and Marguerite Irene (Anderson) Eklund. He graduated from Isle High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955 and served to 1958. Marlyn was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Krebs on March 3, 1962 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giese. He worked as a logger and sawmill operator. He enjoyed gardening and would grow and submit, for competition, different vegetables to the Aitkin County Fair and the Minnesota State Fair where he won first place for his potatoes. Marlyn also enjoyed fishing, bird watching and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Marguerite Eklund; Brothers: Roy, Norman, Larry, Philip and Jerry; Sisters-in-law: Faye, Helen, Denise and Betes; brothers-in-law: Ralph Cooper and Bob Maxwell.
Marlyn is survived by his wife Shirley of Aitkin; daughter and son-in-law: Heather (John) Brummer of Aitkin; Sisters: Lavonne Cooper of Onamia, Corrine Maxwell of Isle, Elaine (Dennis) McPheeters of Minnetonka and Jean (Phillip) Brooks of Eagan and many other special relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
Funeral service will be 11am – Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Bethesda Lutheran Church of Malmo. Pastor James Muske will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
