Marvin Holsten Obituary

Marvin Lee Holsten, 87, of Palisade passed away Sunday, July 13th, 2025 at Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin with family by his side.  He was born April 14th, 1938 in Maddock, North Dakota and the son of Angelo and Mildred (Volden) Holsten.  Marvin’s first job was doing machine work for Cadillac Screw and then he worked as a machinist for Thor Tool in Aurora, IL. and Burges Norton in Geneva, IL.  Marvin was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Casey on September 3, 1960 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Aurora, IL.  In 1972 they moved to Minnesota with their two children Kim and Tim.  He worked at Aitkin Iron Works from 1972 – 1974 and then in 1974 started the family farm with dairy cows and then later on added beef cows in 1992.  He also worked as a bus driver for over 30 years.  He was a member of the Workman Township Board for 14 years, the Palisade Co-op Board for 13 years and a Fire Warden for 40 years.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching the MN Twins and Vikings, four wheeling, haying and driving the tractor, bowling and playing pool and he loved his grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents: Angelo and Mildred (Volden) Holsten, son Tim Holsten, Parents-in-laws: Nelson and Annette Casey, siblings: Dennis, Donny, Sylvester, Lynn, and Joan Holsten, and brother-in-law Homer, and son-in-law Les Mindrum.  Marvin is survived by wife Bev Holsten; daughter Kim Mindrum; grandchildren: Kyle and Kylie Mindrum, Casey and Garret Hoheisel;

great-grandchildren: Ella and Connor Mindrum, Sage and baby Hoheisel;

siblings: Jim Holsten, Janet (Dick) Kelly, Linda Whitlock, Susan Holsten;

friend Tim Atkins; Many special nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.  

A celebration of life will be held 12pm – 3pm Saturday, July 26th, 2025 at the Rustic Trail in Palisade.  Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Aitkin.  Go to www.srtfuneral to leave a message of condolence.
