Mary Fischer Obituary

Mary A. Fischer

Mary Agnes (Heesch) Fischer, 89, of Aitkin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 24, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer.  Mary was born on February 17, 1937, in Elkton, South Dakota.  After graduation, she moved to Sioux Falls and began working at a bank—where she met Clyde Fischer, the love of her life. They married in 1959 and were blessed with four beautiful children.  In 1979, Mary and Clyde made their home in Aitkin. She became an active member of St. James Catholic Church and lived a life marked by joyful service—to her Lord, her church, her community, and her family.  Mary’s greatest joy was her family. She was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great‑grandchildren. Though she worked in retail at several Aitkin businesses, her most treasured and important role was as a wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, and aunt, and being present for whoever needed her, both for her family and her friends and neighbors in her community. No matter the time or circumstance, Mary was always ready to help in any way she could.  Mary found happiness in simple, beautiful things and enjoyed gardening, reading, any kind of craft, sewing, painting, putting together puzzles and not cooking (although she was very good at it). But the thing she enjoyed most was spending time with family and friends and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, George & Helen Heesch, brothers and sister-in-law, Jerry (Eleanor), Gene, sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy (Raymond) Roemen, Patricia (Jerry) Bayer, and many beloved nieces and nephews.     Mary is survived by her husband of nearly 67 years, Clyde, sons and daughters-in-law: Roger (Melissa) Fischer, Mike Fischer (Lisa Dawson), daughters and sons-in law: Sheri (Tom) Sanbeck, Shelley (Larry) Dahl. Grandchildren: Grant, Andrew (Adrianna), Katie, Lauren (Ryan), Maggie, Jake, John, Mark, Rachel, Hallie, Tony, Erik (Erika), David, and Corri (Trevor). Great-grandchildren: Cathy, Logan, Sophie, Lorelei, Cecilia, Silas and Callahan. She is also survived by her sister, Rosie Herold, sister-in-law, Joann Heesch and brother-in-law, Bill Symens.

Funeral service will be 11:00am – Monday, May 4, 2026 at Saint James Catholic Church in Aitkin.  Visitation will be 4 to 7pm with a prayer service starting at 6:45pm Sunday, May 3, at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.  Visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be in Saint Thomas Cemetery, Aitkin.  To leave a message of condolence, go to www.srtfuneral.com
