Mary Louise Streeter, 88 of McGregor, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 10th, 2024 in Aitkin, Minnesota. She was born on June 3rd, 1935 to Aaron and Pearl (Lemke) Ernst at The Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. She graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1953. On April 24th, 1954 she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Gene – “Oh The Joy!” Her first job was at the age of nine, bunching onion and radishes on a farm truck at the former Brookdale Mall site. From there she began work as a photo finisher before becoming the first paid teachers aid in the state of Minnesota at Pike Lake Elementary School. Eventually she moved on to Medtronic where she assembled and inspected pace makers, and was later promoted to quality control. In 1973 they moved to Colorado where she worked for an orthodontics office that specialized in restoring cleft palates. After moving back to Minnesota, they soon found their dream home on Big Sandy Lake, “God’s Northern Country”. She held various jobs in town before her son asked her to help out at Willey’s Marine, where she worked until retirement in June of 2010.
Faith, love, integrity and hope were cornerstones in her life. She carried the love and teachings of the Lord with her daily. While in Colorado, she and Gene were youth directors at their church. As a member of Grace Lutheran Church she served in many ways, including with the youth, in the choir and on council. Mary lived life to the fullest, but spending time with family and friends meant the most. Guests were a staple in her home and when you left, she was always in the porch window with a wave goodbye. There was always a smile on her face, and if you gave her a hug, it would have made her day. Mary was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gene, parents Aaron and Pearl Ernst, brother Richard, sisters and brothers-in-law: Sally, Keith, Lorraine, Douglas, Richard, Larry, Daniel; and nephews Richard and Paul.
Mary is survived by her children: Todd (Beverly) Streeter of McGregor; Susan (Vince) Tyler of Hampton, GA; grandchildren: Stacy (Kyle) Strang, Andrew Streeter; Chris (Amy) Tyler, Michael (Kristen) Herbert, Cameron (Jessica) Tyler, and Amanda Tyler; Great Grandchildren: Theo and Mack Strang, Devin Tyler, Mathias Herbert, Melody, Jaedyn and Charlie Tyler; Aunt Esther Valenta; Sisters-in-law: Rosemary, Joanne, Sharon, Kitty and many special nieces and nephews.
Services will be 12:00pm - Thursday, January 18th 2024 at Grace Lutheran Church in McGregor with Pastor Lorelie Robinson officiating. Visitation will be from 10am-12pm – Thursday at the church. Arrangements are with McGregor Funeral Home & Cremation Services in McGregor. Go to www.srtfuneral.com to leave a message of condolence.
