Maryann Frances Carr, 90 of McGregor went to heaven on June 17, 2025. She was a resident at Carefree Living in McGregor. She was born August 15, 1934 in Willernie, Mn. to Frank and Liala Sand. She joined sister Betty and brother Jerry. Somewhere around the age of 10 she moved with her family to Lake Minnewawa where her Dad built a house and eventually 3 cabins naming their buisness Echo Bay Resort. Maryann first attended school at Bell Horn Bay and graduated from McGregor High School In 1952. After graduation, she moved to Duluth to work but finallly fell for the charms of Richard Carr and they married October 23, 1954 at Grace Lutheran Church. They purchased a farmstead from Ed Groh where she lived until moving to Carefree Living in January 2025. Maryann was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She worked alongside Dick to provide for their family. She took care of the house and farm while Dick worked at Standard Lumber Company. As the kids got older, she went to work early in the morning to clean Buckhorn Bar, always getting home in time to make breakfast for Dick before he went to work. Maryann was hired as a custodian at McGregor Schools and worked there until her retirement in 2006. She loved working at the school and probably made many kids cringe whan told “You don’t bounce the ball in the hall.” She demanded respect but was the first to buy whatever fundraiser candy bar, wrapping paper or cookies being sold. Maryann was very strong in her faith and was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, Summer Bible School, and Release Time Classes. Another happy place was sitting on her John Deere mowing Woodland Cemetary where she was caretaker for over 50 years. She was an adventurer and loved to travel. Maryann has traveled throughout the lower 48 states as well as Alaska and Hawaii. A trip to Spain and the Azores where Jerome and Sally were stationed, was a highlight. Maryann enjoyed her farm, reading, crossword puzzles and mostly her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, an infant son, sister and brother-in-law Bernard and Betty Konsti, brother Jerry Sand.
She is survived by her Five children and their spouses; Jerome Steven, Sandra Jane Sokolak (Randy), Sally Joe Carr (David Martin), James Jon (Michelle), and Joel Scott (Jeanne}; 12 Grandchildren and 25 Great Grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Helen Sand and Sharon Hendricks along with many cherished nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.
