Michael Robert Bernier

Michael Robert Bernier, 80, of Garrison, born July 8, 1944, in Minneapolis, son of Cyril and Genevieve (Slattery) Bernier, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at home after a long battle with strokes.  Michael attended Central High School in Minneapolis.  He was a veteran who served in the United States Army from 1965-1967 and a lifetime member of V.F.W. and American Legion.  Michael belonged to Carpentier Union for over 50 years and worked as a Millwright in construction.   Michael was united in marriage to Beverly Swenson on January 2, 1991 and they enjoyed 34 years of marriage.  Michael and Beverly lived in Brooklyn Center until retiring to Garrison.  Michael enjoyed Muskie fishing and spending winters at their home in Arizona for the last 13 years. 

Michael is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tim and David Bernier; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Swenson and Herb Johnshoy; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elsie and Fritz Swenson

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Beverly; two children, Dawn (Tony Buss) Bernier and Jean Bernier; 4 grandchildren, Tyler Wolfe Bernier, Grace (Ryan) Grunewald, Lucian and Jean Michael Bernier; 2 step grandchildren, Cassie Desomme and Johnny Buss; in-laws, Penny Bernier; Connie Johnshoy, Marlys Swenson, Doug and Diane Swenson, Becky and Jerry Coil and many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Michael’s Life will be held 2pm to 5pm - Saturday, March 22, 2025 at the Garrison V.F.W.
