Michael J. Cartie passed away January 23, 2026 at Minnesota Masonic Home in Bloomington. He was born August 8, 1943 in Aitkin the son of Alfred P and M Eleanor (Tully) Cartie. He was a 1961 graduate of Aitkin High School. Mike attended St Cloud State 1961-62 and 1963-66 and graduated in March 1966 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration Degree in accounting in July, 1971. June 1986, Mike received a Diploma of Graduation from Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Delaware. Mike started a career in banking in August 1962 at 4th Northwestern National Bank in Minneapolis. In August 1963 he transferred to Northwestern Bank & Trust in St Cloud so he could resume his studies at St Cloud State College. In August 1966 he began his career in Education at St Cloud Area Vocational Technical School as an accounting instructor. From July 1969 until December 170 Mike was a multiple-line agent for State Farm Insurance in St Cloud. After completing his MBA Degree in Accounting in July 1971, Mike taught accounting at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, OR from 1971 – 1973 and at Hutchinson AVTI in Hutchinson from 1973 – 1975 and served as an adjunct accounting instructor at St Cloud State University from 1973 – 1983. Mike was Assistant Director of Education at the State Reformatory for Men in St Cloud MN from 1975 – 1978. From 1978 until his retirement in 199, he served in numerous positions at Brainerd Technical College in Brainerd including Assistant to the President. While on leave of absence from the Brainerd Technical College from 1983 – 1987 Mike was Vice President of Operations at Bremer Bank in Brainerd.
On April 20, 1963 Mike was united in marriage to Julia C Bodle at St James Catholic Church in Aitkin. They have three children, Michele (Dan) Soldner, Maricopa AZ, Bradley (Marlyce) Cartie, Farmington and Kimberly (Andy) Wandmacher, Robbinsdale; seven grandchildren: Emily (Antonio) Lupo, Brian (Shanda) Soldner, Timothy Soldner, Sydney Cartie, Mason Cartie, Madeline Wandmacher, Alison Wandmacher; six great-grandchildren: Remington Soldner, Mario Lupo, Layne Soldner, Henry Lupo, Penelope Soldner and Braelynn Soldner. He is also survived by his sisters Marcella River, Sauk Rapids and Barbara Sundholm, Smyrna, TN.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Alfred P and Eleanor M (Tully) Cartie, brothers Gordon Cartie and Richard Cartie and his sisters Mary Donahe and JoAnne Mohrfeld.
Per Mike’s request there will be no visitation, nor funeral. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Emily, MN. Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin. www.srtfuneral.com
